View Full Version : Some thoughts from good old Baby Seal

So I just got my internet back after 6 weeks without it and I was playing a bit of WoW and catching up on what everybody was up to. Some of those conversations were surprising to me.

I hear that all of the level 60's already in other guilds were ordered to rejoin Shadows, or else. I noticed that nobody has dropped their new affiliations and returned to Shadows. I also notice that nobody but me was kicked out of IRON by the WoW directors. And now I hear that all of the IRON MMO divisions have been opened and the WoW crew can now join whatever guild they want to whenever they get the urge.

So let me get this straight...

I made a lowbie PvP joke guild and invited my IRON buddies to participate if they felt like it. I made the same offer to Epilogue, as well as anyone else I came across.

Epilogue had no issues whatsoever with the little project, and a number of them joined. Most thought it was a fun idea. A few thought it was dumb. Nobody thought it was a violation of trust or an attack on their influence.

IRON locked my thread and asked me not to discuss it ever again. I, while a bit surprised that it was such an issue, honored that request and never brought it up again. A day later my connection went, and a week after that my computer crashed.

While I was unable to get online to even see what was going on, a bit of a ruckus took place in the WoW forums. I saw the ruckus a couple of times while visiting my sister's house and using her connection, but I was totally uninvolved. Unless, that is, you count a couple of people screaming for my head and howling about how they had been unfairly abandoned by the level 60s.

Anyway, I appear to have become the lightning rod, even though I was not even around for most of that time, and I was booted by the Shadows director team. At the time I was bemused, but not overly angry. The drama had gotten to be a bit much, and I didn't even have a working computer.

But then I began to think about it. I noticed a few things. I noticed that most of the complaining was coming from a couple of people who had doofed around for months, without ever getting a level 60 toon, and were now pissed off that the rest of us hadn't sat around with our thumbs up our butts and waited for them to settle on a class, race, and faction and finally level something up. And I noticed that I, for some reason, seemed to be the main target of these people. Then I noticed that I was the only one kicked out, without any warning or a word of explanation. And finally, I noticed that WoW was finally made into an open game, just like it should have been all along.

Anyway, I was just wondering if anyone was interested in stepping up and explaining this to me. It seems to me that I was unfairly singled out. In fact, I strongly suspect that my creation of the Cute and Fuzzy Bunnies guild was used as an excuse to boot me by a few people that blamed me for the fact that Shadows was never able to become a cohesive guild. I got the boot because the people that doofed around for months were angry that some of us chose not to sit around and wait for them. They viewed me as a catalyst for the exodus of the long-time level 60 players, so when they got their opportunity I got voted out.

The thing that irritates me is that the people who got most upset about people like me choosing to move on are the people who were never interested in playing any dedicated character, class, or faction. They wanted to play casually, and to stop and smell every rose with every single nose in the game. And they wanted to force the rest of us to suspend our gaming until they were ready to commit to something. Then they were offended that we chose not to do it their way, even though they had no intention of doing it our way. I think that's called hypocrisy.

By the time they finally did commit to something we were all gone, having run every level 50ish instance to death, and seeking to get to something new. And they were angry at us for moving on and jealous of what we'd been able to do in-game. They called us traitors to IRON and said we'd abandoned them, when in reality, they'd never tried to help us out in any way, never made any effort to see our side of things, and apparently never even realized just how hypocritical they were being to insist that we do it their way or else. And they kicked me out of IRON.

Anyway, I just wanted to make my point here. I think I got railroaded, and I think it was wrong. I'm not seeking readmission, but I do want to take a few minutes and express my thoughts on the issue, since I was never given the opportunity to do so before my summary exclusion. I think that after spending months as a director, working dilligently to improve the community, and playing as a member for a couple of years, I deserve better than an unexplained lockout.

I truly do welcome anyone's comments. And Kermie D, I'd especially welcome yours.

BabySeal, I will contact you via PM and discuss this issue with you. I'll get comments from all of the WoW directors on your concerns as your expulsion was done at a Director level and not a Admin level.

However, I am locking this thread on the open forums because of the flame war that will no doubt occur if it is left open. I will not delete nor edit any of your comments.

This is the response from the WoW Directors:

BabySeal,

The reason for your expulsion was due to many events where you overstepped boundaries and broke community rules. These events ultimately resulted in removal of your access to these forums.

There were many incidents where this happened but to ensure that you are very clear on what the Director and Admin team is referring to a few will be listed here. First was when you left Shadows, clearly breaking the Multi Clan Affiliation rules of the time. Then, when the MCA had been changed in light of members desire to access end “game content” through other guilds, the agreement to have active alts in the guild was broken when you removed yours from Shadows and you stopped being active in the community. Finally, when you posted a notice of your new guild, again you broke MCA rules by not discussing this guild with any of the Directors or Admins as well as attempting to recruit members of IRON, again without expressing these intents to any of the Directors or Admins.

Although we cannot tell you how to play the games you play, this community has a set of rules that everyone agrees to when they sign up. You being a former Director should have known these rules first hand. We as Directors and Admins of this community had to take action on this matter due to many rules being broken, and the many second chances that were given to you. We reviewed all the infractions that occurred and had long discussions on this topic. This was not the decision of anyone one person or any one group, but it was the majority vote of all the persons in the Director and Admin role of this community. We would like to thank you for your time with us here at Iron Phoenix, and wish you well in your future endeavors, but your membership here has been revoked.
