Crap. I keep forgetting to set the fiancee's computer up for this. Is there anything in particular I need to do to set her up as a 2nd processor under my name?

Just make sure you use the exact same name when you set that computer up as well.

Is there a way to run the FAH client as a service so that it runs even if I am not logged in? (Win XP)

Yes....

That is the way I run mine.

The new client is easier to configure (I am still running Version 4.00)

There is supose to be in the settings a tab to set as a service.

I use a program to called "srvany.exe" to make the folding .exe file a service listed in the Admin tools/service section.

A guy named "Coolrunr" made this for Folding people a few years ago and Updated it regularly:

I wrote a VB program that allows you to install the service no matter where you have FAH installed to or what your client is named and can now easily add your own command line options.
Version 1.3 uploaded 2/28/04
You can download it here (link) (http://drautage.com/Folding/FAHServiceInstaller1.3.exe).

A few minor fixes for 1.3:
1) Only files with a .exe extension will show up now so looking for the console should be much easier.
2) The forcesse check no longer looks for the old v4.0 pre-lease

Currently the service has been tested on the 3.25 console client and all Console 4 versions.

Some notes before installing:

1. The FAH client must have been ran once to be setup. Ie. entering your user name and team name.
2. This will work if you want to run multiple instances, but make sure you use different folders for each instance.
3. You will need to be connected to the internet to download the srvany.exe file.
4. You will have to restart your PC after running the program. After restarting it can take Wndows up to 5 minutes to update the registry and start the new service.

Any comments and problems you encounter are helpful.

For those of you who are looking for a Linux setup, go here (http://forum.folding-community.org/viewtopic.php?t=2283&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0).

It turns out that the latest version comes in 2 flavors: The regular GUI version and a command line version that you can install as a service.

So now, this is the version I need to sneak on my wife's machine... :P

Do we have a team setup for the BOINC stuff. I have 6 computers running SETI@home, einstien prediction (neutron star finding), and Climate prediction.

They all run through Berkley's BOINC.

Let me know if there is a team for these and I'll join.

JD, look at the sticky above this post. I do not have a team for Prediction or Einstein, so if you want to start those, let me know the numbers and I will join them. The Seti team is Tylenol's that I am under.

Is there a way to set this up on a linux server with dual processors (that display as four when you take into account HT) so that it runs as a daemon and only at around 85% cpu usage? I want to try this out on my webserver but I don't want to overload the poor thing.

Ares

A small reminder... PS3s have this built in to the OS already... you can really help a good cause when you are not gaming. Just set mine up. Its pretty easy, under network stuff, download it, update it and press triangle to set the auto start at 10 min (when nothing is going on). Then start it up, press triangle again when you are at the visual display and enter your name and team number like up above.

Mine should be doing WUs every 8 hours or so.

You can also listen to your Music while you Fold... so its great to let run while you clean =)

Been using Life with playstation for a few weeks now and have to say it is nothing like the Wii weather/news channel. They need to update that shit ASAP.

Ares

Yep, I agree, its pretty lame. I liked the original Folding software better. Is it just me, or does it take too many steps to try and get back to the PS3 main menu when you get back?

citidel

hit [] and press down and it goes to std folding at home UI.

And getting out you just mash the PS button and your out.
