First Kara run Wednesday, Nov 7 @ 6:30p MST

I would like to start our first Karazhan run on Wednesday, November 7, 2007 at 6:30p server time (Mountain Time). We have enough people keyed now. If we can get 10 people to commit, we'll give it a shot. We'll do round two on Sunday, November 11th at 9:30a, (MST). Reply to this thread if you can make it.

You must have the required add-ons installed and functioning correctly to attend the raid, especially Voice Chat:

If you don't meet these minimal requirements, you will not be able to attend.

It is also strongly suggested you stock up on potions, food, water, reagents, sharpening stones and whatever else you use on a regular basis. Make sure you are fully repaired before heading out. Come prepared!

If you haven't done so yet, read up on the bosses, specifically Attumen the Huntsman. A nice guide was put together here to review each boss:

Attumen is considered the "gear check" boss for KZ, so this will help orient us on raiding, plus see how our gear stacks up.

There is no goal for these first runs, except to get familiarized with the instance and brush up on raiding, especially if you haven't done it before or it has been a while. We will focus on Attumen at this point and take things a step at a time.

We are here to have fun, learn and experience some higher level content together. Don't be upset if we fail several times in the beginning. I expect we will, while we learn. Expect to wipe many times and have some healthy repair bills. Don't get frustrated, we'll get better in time. There are no expectations on anyone except to play their class as they know it and to follow any tips they've read regarding their class and the bosses in KZ. Just as we proved ourselves running Black Morass, getting organized and successfully completing it, we'll do the same eventually in KZ. :D

I would like to bring Aodhanna... However, 6:30pm server time is about 45 min to an hour too early for me.

My ex has my daughters on Wednesday evenings, and they come back home to me about 6:30pm server time... then I need to get them in bed and settled.

If I can join you late, I will. Otherwise, go have fun and I'll hope to come on another date.


(I can start Kara at 7pm server time any evening except Wednesdays, on Weds it's better for me at 7:30pm server time. Just fyi.)

Hey hey, so far looking good on your group build. 2 priests (healing and shackles), 2 tanks so the rest should be DPS. I will check with my spousal unit and see if I can attend (she is taking 30 days vacation and I am expected to spend time with her). So please mark me as a possible, I will confirm as soon as I can one way or the other.

Attu is pretty fun, the biggest thing with Kara is that areas are on respawn timers until the boss for that area is downed. I believe for Attu it is 30 minutes, 45 minutes for Moroes. Also, if you havent picked up the Violet Eye chain, might want to. ATM I cannot read the guides you have posted, but guides only give ya an idea of what to expect. Besides, learning an instance really the most fun in teh game, everything else is secondary imo.

If anyone needs help getting keyed, hit me up. SL is my biggest downfall, that instance hates me.

You dont have to swap people in. Its just a warning if you do swap people in "AT ANY TIME" they are locked into your raid.

Update for my schedule

My youngest daughter has a birthday party on this Wednesday (completely slipped my mind), from 5-7pm SERVER TIME. It's located about 20 min away from my home.

So I can't make it online until about 8pm server time, I'm guessing at this point.


Long story short: Do not count on me for Kara this Wednesday.


Next week I should be able to make it for Kara on Wednesday.

Yea what was stated....You only get locked in if you are in the raid group in the instance. You don't need to bring people in just to lock them into your instance because they can enter it any time of the week so long as they don't go with a different group also that week.

Once you are in, you will be locked but not the instance itself for clarification.

I have two by the ways for everyone:

1) I watched a video of a guild fighting Attumen. It's not the greatest thing in the world but it was interesting for me. I assume there are some battles with him on youtube if anyone wants to check out what it's like before getting there. The one I specifically saw was part of a series called Boss Killers (I forgot the name of the guild) and I just happened to notice it in the podcast section of iTunes last night.

2) I don't know much about Kara at all, can someone explain the locked thing to me please?

If I am guessing right, the reference to "locking" just means, if you start KZ one week with one group, you cannot go off into a separate KZ group within the same week, hence you are "locked" into the instance for that week with that group.

Once the instance resets (KZ resets every week on Tuesday), you can join a new group for that instance, but you will be "locked" into that group again until the following instance reset. Make sense?

you are not "locked" into that specific group. you are however limited in joined groups that have either gone as far into Kara as you or further.
example: break Kara into 10 parts ... my original group makes it part 6 and stops. i can join any group that has made it to part 6 or beyond. but i cannot join a group that has only made it to parts 1,2,3,4,or 5

Hate to argue the point, but toons do get locked into a certain raids. If you open your social tab, go to Raid and in the upper right your will see a button that says raid info. In there is the ID you have been assigned to for the specified instance, if you have not been in a raid that button is greyed out. You cannot join another raid party that has already been established, but you can have people join you if they are not "locked" into another raid ID. If two raids went at the same time and down the exact same bosses, they will still not be able to swap members out between the raids due to different raid ID's. Blizz did this to prevent people from getting too much too soon and too easily.

The point that was being made is that you don't need to bring everyone in to get them locked to a raid. Yes, once you're locked into one, you can't join a different one that week, but there's no point in bringing someone into the instance just to lock them to it.
