Mozilla scares me and makes me pee a little.

Seriously, I really need to dump IE and switch over. Is there a way to import your favorites from IE to Mozilla?

Yep. When you install Firefox it gives the option of importing everything over from IE. By the way, the new Firefox 1.0 is just awesome. They fixed a few bugs the last time I used 8 months ago. It's truly very slick now.

I get the errors in Firefox and IE. Got it at work on IE too, so it's not my wacky satellite connection (which does get amazingly wierd errors).

I think I might have an idea with what's happening. Are you guys using www.fserve.org still, or have you migrated to:

www.iron-phoenix.com ...?

I'm using the fserve site, with no errors, on IE.

Is there a way to get to it through fserve?

Iron-Phoenix works just fine for me.

You know, I've not ever had this issue, but people have reported it to me in the past. Not sure where exaclty it comes from. I'm sure that if the users experiencing the issues went to fserve.org or iron-phoenix.com (or www.planetsidemovies.com for that matter) they would have the same issues. With more people experiecing it, maybe we can pin it down quickly. Hopefully tomorrow won't be as busy as today was and I'll have some time to sit down and work on this.

For now guys ignore the issues. If you notice they have changed, please report them to me (you can post in this thread, email me at dubba@planetsidemovies.com, or send me a private message. Thanks guys!

What firewall do you use?

DeeDee

Tried fserve.org (amazing what you can find out by trying things before asking...oh wait, after asking....) and get the same error with the forums.

For testing purposes:
Is the same with IE and Firefox, over both domains, with satellite at home. Was the same on IE at work on cablemodem. Switched over to dialup at home and used Firefox on both domains, no annoying error messages!!!

Damn satellite! Satellite uses multiple IPs, I tried both my dialup with static IP and the account with random IP (but not constantly changing throughout the session like satellite does). This has been an issue with other forums and some server-side programs on websites I have to use for work (authentication on password protected sites etc)

I have EZ firewall. Came with my time warner road runner connection.

I've got my firewall up, and yes I'm going through fserve. I'll try the phoenix url now and see if that clears it up, thanks!

Just tried it, still getting the crap on top. Firewalls are:

Software: Norton Internet Security Professional 2003

Hardware: Linksys router

DeeDee
10-27-2004, 08:26 AM
Oh right, firewalls.

Laptop: Win 98, no firewall, Linksys wireless access point plugged into a switch. (Husband had to give me this, I thought the damn thing was a router.)
Gaming rig: Win XP SP2, SP firewall, AZ FW uninstalled, EZ Armor AV running, Lisksys wireless access point plugged into a swtich.
Work PC: Cablemodem with wireless LAN. (Not sure of configuration there)

The only configuration that works for me is bypassing the LAN and using the internal modem in my machine.

I get it with Mozilla & IE however when I disable Norton Internet Security it goes away. So basically the software firewall detecting something frrom THIS site when its enabled. I do not get these error messages on any other site.

Warning: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output started at /home/httpd/vhosts/iron-phoenix.com/httpdocs/header.php:32) in /home/httpd/vhosts/iron-phoenix.com/httpdocs/includes/page_header.php on line 532

Im not an html expert but something in the header is causing this...

dubba
10-29-2004, 03:24 PM
Heh, well yeah, I was thinking it was something with the headers as well. ;)

But seriously...I'm not sure what it is. Obviously, it has to do with firewalls and the way they interact with this site, and specifically with the headers from the site. Now, my firewall, here at the office, is a highdollar watchguard hardware firewall. I have strict control over it, and I set it to be pretty restrictive. But I have no issues with the site. I also run Windows Firewall from SP2 on this machine...again, no issues.

So, what I guess I need is to get a hold of a copy of Norton Internet Security and play with all of the features until I figure out which one breaks the site. I may go pick up a copy of it this weekend. We'll see.

On that EZ firewall utility that you get from RoadRunner, what kind of options do you have with it? Is it an all or nothing type firewall, or do you get many config options with it? If you get options, how is yours set currently?

We'll track this down and get this taken care of quickly folks. Thanks for your help!

Yeah just the tech in me saying its not my hardware but its your software thats at fault

Seriously though we know your trying to figure it out.

I've tried adding www.iron-phoenix.com as a trusted site in IE and also uncheck all default settings for NIS on firewall for this site to off, and it still comes up. Only disabling NIS and refreshing the page makes the error msg's go away.

It is very annoying seeing it on every forum page. Thanks for trying to figure it out :D

Skunk
10-29-2004, 04:02 PM
Ok Dubba, it's an E-trust firewall but to be honest with you, everything with this thing looks(and has the same features) exactly like Zone Alarm. :?

I haven't tried disabling IE's firewall, because I don't get them when I switch over to dialup.

I think the only thing TB and I have in common is the Linksys hardware. Mine is a wireless access point, his is a router. Anyone else with this error got a Linksys product?

KYB

I have 2 HDSL at home ( i work for Bell Canada and i'm a partial teleworker)

i also have on each HDSL ( Alcatel ) a linksy router , one DI-704P and one DI-604

When i get trought one of them hard wired , with PC or Laptop i do not have that probleme.

MORE linksys

for the Laptop i also have a Lynsys WRT45G that is not use as a ROUTER but as a HUB extention to the DI-704P ... out of the Laptop via a Cisco Aironet 350 (BTW Lynksys IS cisco product )

And with that sheme , eveting fine!

I'm on win2000 pack 4 ( it's better for me than anny XP... i had so many crash with XP... and so cool with win2k that i stick to! )
------------------------

Wath is the model of your Router ?

dubba
10-30-2004, 12:27 PM
I have a linksys product at the house and I don't get the errors. Again, I think this has to do with the way some firewalls intrepet headers from a website. However, the fact that it then in turn displays part of the absolute path to the directory that the header file is stored in on the actual box that we're hosted on...that's disconcerting.

Odd.. I get it on my laptop which has no firewall, but I get it on my Main rig which has the windows (SP2) firewall enabled.
Both are behind the generic firewall in my router, but its never had a problem before.
Both PCs are using Firefox, but the main rig has RC1 and the laptop is still running .8x version (i think).

DeeDee

Hate to beat a dead horse, but the firewall on my PC does NOT appear to be the issue. I do not get the errors with SP2 Firewall on, in IE or Firefox, so long as I use dialup modem instead of my wireless LAN.

(Linksys Wireless USB Network adapter WUSB11 connected to EtherFast 10/100 8 port network switch connected to DirecWay thingamajiggie---bidirectional satellite connection).

Hate to beat a dead horse

The horse ain't dead yet. ;)

What I meant was, some people were reporting that the error occured when they enabled the Norton Firewall, and went away when they disabled the firewall. That's pretty solid evidence right there that, at least for that one setup, the use of the firewall is causing the issue. Now, that isn't to say that all firewalls cause the issue, as is clearly shown by some of the other posts here. :)

Please, provide all the information you guys can on this. Systems where it does work and systems where it doesn't work, etc. I'm tracking this thing. People all over the internet have it, but no one knows the answer, and since it's seemingly random, no one really has an answer yet. It can be quite frustrating.

BUT - with this group of people, I'm sure we can find a solution that works. :)

Isn't there separate settings specific to each network interface? ie. firewal enable for the wireless card and not for the dialup connection?

dubba
10-30-2004, 07:18 PM
I got a few good leads today that may help me out...something about editing some of the config files for the site. I'm not at a workstation where I can readily back everything up before I make the change, so I'm holding off on it until I can do that. Either tomorrow or Monday we'll see if we can't nip this thing in the bud.

Deedee made me realize another thing.. my unfirewalled Firefox .80 problem having laptop is Wireless. My non-problem having Firefox RC1.0 SP2 firewalled PC is wired into the lan.

I get it on my pc (xp home, sp2) whether the firewall is on or off. At work on the pc (2000 pro, symantec corp) is not a problem. Just my 2 cents.

Tested on husband's machine (same set up as mine except wired into the LAN, not using the wireless access point) and get errors.
Looks like it is *not* the wireless access point.

:(

Might be a satellite issue, DirecWay does change my IP several times during an online session and there are some secure websites that can't cope with that.

Those of you having the errors please reload the site using http://www.iron-phoenix.com (refresh any pages, clear you cache if necessary) and check the forums out again. I just applied a fix and I would like to know whether or not it worked. :)
